The emergency works to protect Hadfield Beach, wastewater pipe and path is progressing well and is expected to be completed sometime next week. Material has been getting barged in from Island Bay Reserve.
The project includes:
- Construct timber pole retaining wall alongside the slope (timber poles have now been installed and concreted into place).
- Construct rock revetment as part of the coastal stabilisation works.
- Install geotextile fabric and fill as required.
- Replace the handrail along the path like-for-like.
Thankyou to all of the council staff who escalated this project, and to all of the local residents who have been advocating for the beach to be saved for many years.
