Today I visited the site of the massive fire at Abilities Group on Hillside Road. The fire has been extinguished but the building has been completely destroyed. Fortunately emergency services were able to keep the fire contained to the site so it didn’t spread. Managing Director of Abilities, Peter Fraher, is working on possible options to continue operating and to keep the staff active. Auckland Council environmental compliance staff have been on-site all night and day, and have been conducting tests of the material and the waterways. They have also offered support to the Abilities staff.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will be underway soon, after which the site will be able to be cleaned up.
