Auckland Transport is proposing to upgrade the intersection of Archers Road/Chartwell Ave to traffic lights. Changes are expected to be made this year.

➡️ Please provide feedback by Friday 7 March to ATengagement@at.govt.nz

The proposed changes include:

1. New traffic lights and traffic light-controlled crossings on each approach to the intersection:
· This will help manage traffic on a busy road and gives priority to people on foot

2. Install cycle boxes on each intersection approach:
· This is a designated waiting area for cyclists at intersections, placed ahead of where motorists stop at traffic lights.
· It gives cyclists a head start, better visibility in traffic and reduces collisions with turning vehicles.

3. Footpath upgrades
· Widen the existing footpath on all corners of the intersection, allowing more waiting area for people on foot and ramps for prams or mobility scooters.
· Tactile pavers (raised yellow bumps on the ground will be installed at all the crossings to help guide visually impaired people.

4. Traffic flow monitoring
· We’ll keep an eye on traffic flow and traffic light timings will be adjusted as needed to alleviate congestion.
· The lights at the crossing will only stop traffic when people need to cross by pushing the button.

5. Reallocating road space:
· To clear access and improve visibility for motorists and people on foot and we need to remove 11 on-street parking spaces
· Removing these spaces will reduce queueing and congestion for vehicles turning from and onto Chartwell Avenue and allow larger vehicles to turn safely.

6. Removal of one tree on Archers Road.
· We will plant two new trees at an alternative location nearby to compensate for the lost tree.

7. New signs and road markings
· New road markings and signs clarify right of way, improve safety by minimising risk of collisions, and ensures compliance with traffic regulations.
