The upgrade of the Wairau Rd / View Rd / Kathleen St intersection to traffic lights will begin soon.
Construction will start on Monday 5th May and is expected to be completed on Thursday 10th July, depending on weather.
Monday 5th May – Sunday 8th June 2025:
- Day Shift: 7am-5pm
- Night Shift: 8pm-6am
Monday 9th June – 6th July 2025:
- Night Works (only): 9pm-5am
Traffic management will be in place – see the attached maps.
Changes include:
- New traffic lights at all approaches to the intersection.
- New crossing signals for pedestrians.
- Moving and improving bus stops and shelters.
- A new central island to deter unsafe turning movements by vehicles exiting the properties closest to the intersection.
- New cycle ramps to give cyclist another way to cross through the intersection, separate from vehicle traffic.
- Yellow tactile pavers at crossing to help people with visual impairments.
- New road markings and signs.
Note: The angled carparks at the shops will no longer be changed to right-angles, so the number of carparks will now stay the same.
