Yesterday the Kaipātiki Local Board confirmed the engagement approach to consulting on the future of recreation at A F Thomas Park.
This followed some passionate presentations from Takapuna Golf Course, Golf Warehouse NZ, Eventfinda Stadium, NHG Gymnastics and Harbour Basketball.
The Local Board has endorsed consultation that includes a range of recreational options, and a range of golf options (including 18-hole golf, 12-hole, 9-hole and more). This will allow everyone to have a say on their preferred vision for the park.
It also became clear from the presentations that it is important that the Local Board also considers the future of EventFinda Stadium in light of the 2023 flooding and the risk that basketball and gymnastics could become compromised if there is another flood. Therefore the consultation will be on the future of the entire park and not only the current golf course area.
Public consultation will run from 20 October to 23 November 2025. Make sure you have your say!
As well as the consultation, there will also be a “deliberative forum” group who will formulate a recommendation. The local board will make a final decision on the way forward in March/April next year.
Note: The public consultation excludes stormwater management at the park.
